Any interest for a California Oppo Meet?

I’ve been seriously bummed out since finding out I was flying out of town for work on the same day as the Radwood show in SF next weekend. But it got me thinking, I know we have a decent number of Oppos across California. I’ve met a couple over the last year at some meets/shows, but I’d like to get to know more of you.

I’d be willing to take the lead in getting things set things up if there is some genuine interest. As for location, I’d be up for suggestions. I know this is a massive state, so putting it at the very northern or southern ends would prove difficult for many.

My first thought would be Monterey or somewhere else nearby in the South Bay. Pleasant, scenic area with some fun roads, and somewhat centrally located. The Yosemite area is also gorgeous, but I don’t know that there’ll be the amenities to support a large group. Of course, there’s the string of cities down Highway 99 (Modesto, Merced, Fresno, Bakersfield). My level of knowledge about these places is practically nil, so someone else will have to help out and tell me if these are worthwhile considerations. Basically, my thought is that it should be south of Sacramento and north of Los Angeles.

As for timing, if we meet somewhere along the coast, really any time of year should be sufficient. If the meet spot winds up inland, perhaps we would best wait until the blistering heat of summer passes us by.

I have tried and had interest, but nothing gone much further. We do have a SoCal email list for meets and have had a few. Date dependent I would be very interested.

I’m an hour north of LA and south of Sacramento. Therefore it qualifies. We shall have it here!

But seriously, date and place dependent. But the Santa Barbara area would be awesome. I think we have a lot of Obbo members in LA, and Santa Barbara isn’t too far. Plus the area around it is great for driving.

The area is very nice. Depending on how long we wanted to have a meet we could drive through the mountains and go to Solvang for anyone interested. Personally I don’t like Solvang, but I know people like to go.

Solvang is the town that’s built like an old Dutch village, correct? I was told to pass through there when I was visiting my buddy while he was working out of Vandenberg. Never made it though, didn’t really pique my interest all that much.

But then again, everything is better with a pack of fun cars.

Yeah. I went a few weeks ago because my sister insisted on stopping on our way up to San Luis, but it’s just a tourist trap. If you’ve got kids it’s great for them to look around, but people always go for the pastries, but they’re outrageously expensive and not good.

Sorry to be so negative, but I’ve been to Germany, and I personally tend to be gun shy of food things that everyone raves about.

I mostly grew up in and around Orlando, so I’m all too familiar with dealing with overpriced tourist traps. Glad I missed out on that one.
